I. Position Summary:
The VP of Marketing & Communications oversees implementation and direction of all marketing and communications outreach for the organization, including the DMO, Convention Center and ECSC Sports. Additionally, the VP of Marketing & Communications serves in a community relations capacity to build awareness of ECSC’s mission and works with CEO and DMO Executive Director to develop and maintain funding sources for the DMO.

II. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Marketing

  • Develop and oversee execution of annual marketing plans
  • Manage director of marketing position and maintain oversight of social media specialist, graphic design specialist and other associates that report to the director of marketing
  • Research and facilitate paid space advertising placements and maintain relationships with advertising contacts
  • Act as brand ambassador and maintain proper and effective use of the brand within the organization and the community.
  • Educate community on the purpose and mission of Experience Columbia SC and establish mutually beneficial community partnerships
  • When outsourcing is needed through advertising agencies or other vendor partners, handle communication, and negotiation process and bid/RFP process if needed
  • Organize meetings with local attractions to streamline marketing efforts
  • Conduct interdepartmental meetings to facilitate communication among departments.
  • Assist with brainstorming and ideas for special events produced by various departments

Comunications

  • Manage director of communications position and maintain oversight of associate that reports to the director of communications
  • Oversee Columbia Columbia SC Insiders Guide (visitors guide) project and its various components that are mangaged by staff members and vendor partners

Development

  • Write and present grant applications for the DMO covering City of Columbia, Richland County, Lexington County, West Columbia, Town of Lexington and City of Cayce, as well as any additional municipal grants available.
  • Write and present SCPRT / Destination Specific grant application for the DMO.
  • Investigate additional funding sources and revenue opportunities.
  • Work with CEO and Partnership Services Manager to recruit private funding through Destination Marketing Fee $1 Per Room Program and other partnership programs.

Administration

  • Work with CEO, Finance, and other department heads in budgeting process relating to sales and marketing line items. Review sales and marketing expenditures throughout the year and work with CEO and VP of Finance to adjust projects and programming as needed.
  • Actively participate along with or as fill-in for President/CEO at community related functions, events or interviews as directed.

IV. Education/Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications is required.
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience related to management, sales and marketing with 4-5 years in a managemet role.
