Part-Time Direct Support Professional
Whitehall, PA
We are looking for a dependable, personable Direct Support Professional to work one on one with an adult living in his own home in Whitehall. He has creative interests that include graphics, technology, and fife and drum music. He is interested in getting back on social media and working on projects that matter to him. This role offers the chance to get to know him, build a comfortable working relationship, and support his independence at home and in the community.
Schedule
Approximately 10 hours per week to start, generally two consistent 5-hour days. Days and times can be chosen together based on mutual availability. Once the schedule is established, reliability and consistency are important. The role includes in-person support in Whitehall, with the potential for some live remote support for creative and technology activities as agreed upon and authorized in the participant’s support plan.
What you will do
- Support independence with home routines such as meal preparation, organization, laundry, and light housekeeping.
- Help plan and participate in community activities, errands, and outings, including providing transportation.
- Support individual’s interests in fife and drum music, graphics, and creative projects, including getting back on social media. You do not need to share every interest or be an expert; curiosity and a willingness to learn together are welcome.
- Offer encouragement and practical guidance while respecting his choices, privacy, and pace. This is participant-directed support: The individual helps shape the activities and goals you work on together.
- Communicate respectfully with the participant and coordinate with family and the support team as needed.
What we are looking for
- A friendly, patient person who listens well, enjoys getting to know someone through their interests, and follows through on commitments.
- Respect for an adult's right to make choices and direct his own support.
- A valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and comfort providing transportation for community activities.
- Ability to complete required background checks and employment requirements.
Disability-support experience is helpful, but personality, a good connection with Connor, and willingness to learn also matter. Experience in mentoring, teaching, caregiving, music, or creative and technology activities may also be relevant.
