Job Description
Most benefits roles are a little of everything. This one is 401(k), done right.
A global manufacturer in the Riverside area is hiring a 401(k) Administrator to run its U.S. 401(k) administration, payroll audits, and sales bonus calculations while a team member is out on an extended leave.
The assignment runs through roughly July 2027, and it may convert to permanent depending on how the leave resolves. There is no guarantee of conversion.
You’ll report into Human Resources and support a U.S. employee population of 300 employees. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. The work is narrow by design: no medical, no dental, no leave administration. The focus is retirement plan administration, compensation analysis, and the reporting that goes with them.
Your first weeks will be spent training side-by-side with the person you’re covering, working from detailed desktop procedures for every recurring process. The hardest part of the job is precision. The company runs a safe harbor 401(k) plan, and mistakes are not an option. That means getting deferrals, loan deductions, and off-cycle checks right every time.
If you know the mechanics of 401(k) administration down to the loan deduction on an off-cycle check, this one is worth a look.
What you’ll own
- Biweekly 401(k) payroll audits, including review of deferrals and loan deductions on off-cycle checks
- Payroll media-out files on the established payroll schedule
- U.S. annual profit-sharing calculations and follow-up
- Quarterly sales bonus calculations and reporting, including commission calculations for Asia
- Job pricing, market analysis, and compensation survey participation
- Monthly Market Value Reports and quarterly compensation and incentive plan reports
- Quarterly reconciliation of compensation data with Payroll
- Support for annual retirement plan compliance testing, audit requests, and Investment Review Committee materials
- 401(k) enrollment communications for new hires and answering employee questions on the plan
- Review and routing of retirement plan vendor invoices
What you bring
- 1–3+ years in compensation, benefits, payroll, or retirement plan administration, with hands-on 401(k) administration experience (loans, deferrals, audits) rather than general benefits exposure
- Strong Excel skills: pivot tables, IF statements, and lookups
- SuccessFactors or SAP experience preferred
- Experience handling confidential employee data
- Associate’s degree or higher in HR, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required
- Availability to start soon enough to train with the current administrator before their leave begins in December
Why this one is worth a look
- $38.00–$41.00/hour
- Assignment through approximately July 2027, with possibility of conversion to permanent
- Monday–Friday, 8–5, no overtime
- Hybrid: only 3 days on-site
- A focused 401(k) and compensation role, not a catch-all benefits desk
- Global manufacturer with operations in more than 20 countries and a long record of steady growth
