Our client is launching a new branded streaming platform bringing together film, media art, video, and podcasts in a single premium destination. The Content Programmer is central to this effort: a hybrid editorial-and-operations role responsible for building the platform's content calendar, sourcing and scheduling programming in partnership with curatorial departments, and ensuring every asset is accurately and richly represented on the platform's backend. This role sits within the Content and Editorial team but works in close, day-to-day partnership with MoMA's Product team, translating curatorial intent and institutional priorities into a functioning, well-organized content pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Content Calendar and Programming
- Build, maintain, and continuously refine the platform's content calendar, balancing curatorial premieres, thematic programming, seasonal moments, and audience development goals.
- Liaise regularly with key stakeholder teams, including Content and Editorial, Film, Media and Performance, Library and Archives, Conservation, Learning and Engagement, and
- Marketing to identify, prioritize, and schedule new and archival film, video, media art, and podcast titles for release.
- Coordinate release timing across content types (film, podcast, audio, wraparound/contextual content) to ensure a cohesive weekly and monthly editorial rhythm, and set up work processes for ensuring Content and Marketing teams have the appropriate information to build newsletter and release plans.
- Track licensing windows, exclusivity periods, and rights expirations in partnership with curatorial and legal stakeholders to ensure programming stays compliant and timely.
Backend Content Operations
- Enter and maintain metadata for films, videos, podcasts, and other assets in the platform's content management system (CMS), including titles, credits, synopses, runtimes, categorization/tagging, and release dates
- Work with relevant parties on AEO/SEO across moma.org and media properties
- Ensure metadata accuracy and consistency across the catalog to support discoverability, search, and recommendation features
- QA new and existing content entries for completeness and correctness ahead of publication.
- Flag and troubleshoot data or asset issues in partnership with Product and engineering stakeholders.
- Cross-Departmental Liaison
- Serve as the primary point of contact between Content and Editorial and curatorial departments for platform programming needs.
- Translate curatorial priorities and departmental calendars into platform-ready content plans and timelines.
- Communicate platform capabilities, constraints, and lead times back to curatorial partners to set realistic expectations.
- Partner with Product on roadmap discussions where content needs intersect with platform features (e.g., new content types, tagging taxonomies, or discovery tools).
Required Qualifications:
- 5–7 years of experience in content programming, editorial operations, or content management, ideally within a streaming, media, arts, or cultural institution context.
- Experience working with a content management system (CMS) or digital asset management (DAM) platform; comfort with structured metadata and taxonomy work. Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple concurrent calendars, timelines, and stakeholders.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills; able to work fluently with bot curatorial/editorial and product/technical teams.
- Genuine interest in film, media art, and museum/cultural programming; familiarity with MoMA's collection and departments a plus.
- Detail-oriented, with a strong quality bar for accuracy in public-facing content and metadata.
Preferred Qualifiations:
- Familiarity with film distribution, licensing, or rights management terminology.
- Experience with editorial calendar tools (Asana, Google, or similar).
- Background in art history, film studies, or a related field.
