Job Summary
A stable, family-owned commercial mechanical contractor in Downers Grove, IL is seeking an AR & AP Specialist to join its accounting team on a direct hire basis. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with 3 to 5 years of experience who enjoys hands-on work across accounts receivable, accounts payable, project billing, invoicing, and construction-related financial administration.
This is a strong long-term opportunity with a company that has been in business for more than 80 years and is known for supportive leadership, employee retention, and a collaborative team environment. The AR & AP Specialist will work closely with project managers, operations teams, and accounting leadership to help maintain accurate billing, project cost records, and financial documentation for commercial construction projects.
The work environment is professional, team-oriented, and relationship-driven, offering the opportunity to build strong internal partnerships while supporting critical accounting processes tied to active construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process customer invoices, project billings, and required supporting documentation.
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on outstanding balances, and assist with customer billing questions.
- Process accounts payable invoices, verify accuracy, and code expenses to the correct projects and cost categories.
- Coordinate with project managers and operations teams to collect billing details and maintain accurate accounting records.
- Track project costs, commitments, and billing status to support accurate project financial reporting.
- Maintain organized accounting documentation and assist with additional accounting and administrative tasks as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $55,000 to $75,000 per year.
- Employment type: Direct hire.
- Location: Downers Grove, IL.
