Veterinarian
Job Description
Job DescriptionAssociate Veterinarian — Brickell Bay Animal Hospital
Miami, FL | $130,000–$150,000 + Production Bonuses | Full-Time or Part-Time
Come practice great medicine with people you actually enjoy being around.
Brickell Bay Animal Hospital is an independently owned, boutique small-animal hospital in the heart of Miami's Brickell neighborhood, and we're looking for another veterinarian to join our team.
We're going to skip the usual job-posting language for a minute.
Veterinary medicine is hard enough. Your workplace shouldn't be.
We want our doctors to look forward to coming to work. We want you to trust the people beside you, laugh with your coworkers, have a team that jumps in when the day gets crazy, and leave at the end of your shift feeling like you practiced good medicine and made a difference. We take medicine very seriously. We just don't think everyone has to be miserable while practicing it.
You'll have time to actually be a doctor.
Our appointments aren't designed around seeing the maximum number of patients possible.
Wellness appointments are 30 minutes. Sick appointments are typically 45–60 minutes.
That's intentional.
We want our doctors to have time to examine their patients, think through cases, communicate with clients and practice thoughtful, individualized medicine.
Our doctors average approximately 1.75 veterinary technicians/assistants per doctor, plus one customer service assistant. Doctors work with a receptionist/technician team each day and communicate closely throughout the shift.
If one doctor gets tied up with a complicated case or starts running behind, we adjust the schedule and help each other. Appointments can be moved or transferred to another available veterinaria, rather than leaving a teammate to drown because “that's what the schedule says.”
We also use HappyDoc AI scribing to make charting easier, more accurate and detailed, and help our doctors spend less time at the computer.
Medicine we're proud to practice.
We believe veterinarians should have the tools and resources to properly work up their cases.
Our hospital offers:
- Digital radiography
- On-site ultrasound
- Quick access to board-certified radiologists
- IDEXX in-house laboratory equipment for rapid diagnostic results
- Digital dental radiography
- BioNet 7 multiparameter anesthesia monitoring with capnography
- Strong relationships with local specialists for patients requiring advanced care or referral
Our doctors collaborate freely and regularly discuss cases with one another.
We trust our doctors to be doctors.
A schedule designed for an actual life outside of work.
Our full-time veterinarians average approximately 35.5 hours per week.
Doctors work every other Saturday from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, and our schedule is structured so that every other weekend becomes either a three- or four-day weekend.
We close at 6:30 PM, but we don't schedule appointments until closing time. Our last appointments are generally:
5:00 PM — sick appointments
5:30 PM — wellness appointments
That gives our doctors time to finish records, make callbacks and wrap up their day.
No Sundays. No late-night appointments. No on call hours.
Because having a life outside veterinary medicine shouldn't be an unusual job perk.
Compensation & benefits
For full-time associates, we offer:
- $130,000–$150,000 annual base salary, depending on experience
- Production bonuses
- Average 35.5-hour workweek
- 15 days PTO
- 6 paid holidays
- Continuing education allowance
- Excellent health insurance
- Dental and vision insurance
- 401(k) with 4% employer matching
- Professional licenses and dues paid
- Paid valet parking — because this is Brickell, after all
- Employee pet-care discounts
- Every other weekend is a 3- or 4-day weekend
We're also happy to talk with veterinarians interested in part-time opportunities.
Love surgery? Great. Don't? That's okay too.
Surgery is welcomed but not required.
If surgery is something you enjoy, we'd love to utilize those skills. We don't restrict procedures to one designated surgery day each week; surgeries are scheduled based on hospital availability and what works well for the client.
New graduate? Please apply.
We genuinely welcome new graduates.
Our doctors enjoy mentoring, and we don't expect a new veterinarian to walk through our doors and immediately handle a completely full schedule.
You'll start with longer appointments and fewer of them while you become comfortable with our hospital, team, workflow and software. We gradually increase your schedule as you become comfortable.
There's no prize here for becoming overwhelmed fastest.
Ask questions. Grab another doctor. Talk through the case.
That's what colleagues are for.
We hire for the team, not just the résumé.
Of course we want an excellent veterinarian.
But we're equally interested in finding an excellent human being.
Someone who is kind, collaborative, curious and dependable. Someone who communicates well, helps when a coworker is buried, isn't afraid to ask another doctor's opinion and understands that great veterinary hospitals aren't built around one superstar.
They're built around great teams.
And yes—we actually like each other.
We celebrate birthdays, have staff lunches, get together at local restaurants and bars, and somehow random food and snacks regularly appear in our kitchen.
Our annual holiday party involves games, great prizes and plenty of fun.
And instead of celebrating only Veterinary Technician Week, we celebrate Veterinary Team Week, because every member of our hospital contributes to the care our patients receive.
You'll hear laughter here.
You'll also encounter complicated cases, emotional clients, hectic afternoons, bodily fluids in places bodily fluids should never be, and the occasional Doodle who eats something that challenges your understanding of both anatomy and common sense.
It's still veterinary medicine.
We simply believe the people around you should make those days better, not harder.
Maybe you've found your people.
If you're looking for a hospital where you can practice high-quality medicine, have time with your patients, build genuine relationships with clients, collaborate with other doctors, maintain a life outside work—and actually enjoy the people you work with—we'd really like to meet you.
Stalk us on social media. Come meet our team. Tour the hospital. Spend a little time with us.
