Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing for an opportunity with one of our valued clients in Plano, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional with manufacturing experience, strong SolidWorks skills, and a background in designing electrical power distribution equipment.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing custom switchboards and switchgear, developing mechanical parts and assemblies, creating production drawings and bills of materials, and supporting manufacturing teams. This role applies design for manufacturing principles to reduce complexity, improve assembly efficiency, and support quality, safety, and project requirements.

Location: Plano, TX
Salary: $85,000–$95,000 annually

Responsibilities

  • Analyze project requirements, customer specifications, and drawings to develop mechanical design solutions for custom switchboards and switchgear.
  • Create SolidWorks 3D models, parts, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Design sheet-metal components, enclosures, and weldments with attention to manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and cost.
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials and modify standard assemblies to meet project requirements.
  • Interpret customer bid packages, electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, front elevations, and equipment layouts.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, production, procurement, and other teams to resolve design and component issues.
  • Identify alternative components and modular design opportunities to reduce fabrication lead times and manufacturing costs.
  • Support manufacturing, testing, quality, and field service teams during implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Apply relevant industry standards and codes to equipment designs.
  • Perform additional engineering duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant engineering experience, including at least two years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, drawings, sheet metal, and weldments.
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies from conceptual information.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage switchboard and switchgear design, installation, and use, including UL 891 and UL 1558.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and front elevations.
  • Working knowledge of UL 891, UL 508A, applicable IEEE/ANSI standards, NEC, and NFPA 70E.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes governing the installation and use of low-voltage switchgear.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and manufacturing personnel.


Pre-Employment and Safety Requirements

  • Employment is contingent upon completion of a seven-year nationwide background/criminal check and a five-panel drug screen that includes THC, subject to applicable requirements.
  • Steel-toe boots are required on the first workday. A boot voucher will be provided.


Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to work in office and manufacturing/shop settings.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work may be performed in offices, manufacturing facilities, shops, and commercial buildings.
