Global Media Company | New York, NY | Four Days In Office
About the Opportunity
A fast-growing global news and media company is seeking a hands-on Director of FP&A & Strategic Finance to build its financial planning and analysis function from the ground up.
Reporting directly to the CFO and partnering with the co-founders, this individual will own financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and strategic analysis. The company generates revenue through advertising, sponsorships, live events, subscriptions, and global commercial partnerships.
This is a high-visibility role for a finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, combines strong analytical skills with commercial judgment, and leverages technology and AI to build scalable financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the company's integrated financial model, including revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
- Establish FP&A processes, systems, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting infrastructure from the ground up.
- Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and financial performance analysis.
- Develop executive and board-ready financial reports, presentations, dashboards, and KPIs.
- Partner with the CFO, co-founders, and department leaders on strategic planning, revenue growth, headcount, and resource allocation.
- Analyze revenue streams, profitability, business performance, and new growth opportunities.
- Implement AI tools, automation, and financial technology to improve reporting and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- 6–10+ years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, or corporate finance.
- Required: Proven experience building an FP&A function from the ground up within a high-growth startup or scaling business.
- Exceptional financial modeling skills, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario analysis, and integrated financial models.
- Experience working directly with a CFO, founders, or senior leadership.
- Strong technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to use AI and automation to improve financial processes.
- Background in digital media, technology, SaaS, or a venture-backed or private equity-backed company preferred.
- Investment banking or private equity experience combined with hands-on operating experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field from a strong academic institution.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
Ideal Candidate
A hands-on finance builder with strong modeling skills, startup experience, and an entrepreneurial mindset. The ideal candidate has created financial planning infrastructure in a lean, high-growth environment and can independently develop models, reporting tools, and executive presentations.
Candidates from accounting-focused backgrounds or those who have only maintained an established FP&A function will not be a fit.
