Overview

Ballard House is a founder-led ecommerce company that partners with established brands to scale their Amazon operations using our in-house infrastructure in content creation, advertising and logistics. We began as an Amazon reseller in 2017, evolved into the accelerator model in 2023, and have expanded rapidly, hitting the 2026 Inc 5000 list and Top 25 fastest growing companies in Michigan. We proudly bring our commitment to human relationships and exceptional execution to a growing portfolio of eight and nine figure brands.

We’re hiring a Head of Amazon Operations to lead the operations team, drive process improvement and ensure consistently excellent execution as our brand portfolio and organization grow. This role will focus on scalable systems across operations, including client services KPIs (on time task completion, labor bandwidth allocation per brand, quarterly project management), logistics and fulfillment (freight efficiency, inventory sell through, demand planning) and blending scalable people management with AI implementation into recurring workflows.

This role will oversee the design of Clickup workflows, lead a cross-functional team of 10+, and remove points of friction within verticals including demand planning, catalog management, content creation, advertising and reporting. You will get a direct say in shaping how data is used, the cadence the team follows to get work done, and raising the bar for how Ballard House executes for our partners. Reporting directly to the COO, the Head of Amazon Ops also sits on our leadership team and will directly contribute to strategic planning at the company level through collaboration with other department heads.

This role does not own: Setting strategic growth priorities for brands, leading account management, setting product page content standards or setting advertising strategy. It also does not own day-to-day warehouse operations. Instead, you’ll focus on building the engine that drives consistent execution across our portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for leading team performance across inventory planning, content, advertising, catalog and operations to hit KPIs for core service
  • Lead process improvement across brand management operations and cross-functionally with the warehouse and account management teams
  • Ensure SME team leads (ads, media, catalog, inventory) own and maintain current SOPs and hold them accountable for documentation quality, versioning, and adoption
  • Coordinate with brand managers, inventory planning team and warehousing to ensure product flow is optimal throughout seasonal fluctuations and peak events
  • Define operational reporting requirements, and drive improved data quality and accessibility
  • Identify resource gaps and lead initiatives to expand the team and toolset, including hiring, training, and software implementations
  • Lead recurring operations meetings to track KPIs, remove friction, and drive collaboration across disciplines
  • Help evolve team structure, management systems, communication cadence, and delegation as the department grows from 15 to 30+ people
  • Serve as a core member of the leadership team, pressure-testing ideas against real team capacity and implementation feasibility
  • Travel quarterly to Michigan or other domestic location for leadership team strategic planning and/or team events, with greater frequency in year one
  • Periodic trade show and industry event travel required

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of experience leading operations or client services at an ecommerce agency or 8-9 figure ecommerce brand
  • Deep operational fluency in Amazon Seller Central in subjects including catalog, ecommerce demand planning, logistics, account health and data management
  • Proven ability to lead and grow teams of 10+, build SOPs, and own execution across multiple functions
  • Hands on experience building and refining project management workflows, preferable in an agency environment
  • Ability to communicate concisely, run effective meetings, hold a team accountable, and work cross-functionally
  • Real world experience using AI to accelerate teams or individual contributors

This role is for you if:

  • You look at a workflow and can’t stop finding ways it could be simpler
  • You prefer small biz scrappy to corporate drama and committees
  • You love doing work that makes an impact and generates a real win
  • You’ve worked brand-side or agency-side in ecommerce operations and love the mix of logistics, data, and team execution
  • Love the puzzle of making sure products are at the right place at the right time
  • You like to clarify the goal, then compress the timeline to completion
  • You wouldn’t trade your reputation for a short-term win
  • You agree that watching a team run smoothly is one of life’s greatest joys
  • You believe the shared mission is more important than keeping everyone happy

Probably not the right fit if you:

  • Love the comfort of having an SOP for all situations
  • Would rather let someone else manage the details so you can focus on the big picture
  • Get burned out managing multiple projects
  • Prefer to set easy goals because missing a target feels bad
  • Want to ship something once, then move on forever
  • See operations more as “maintenance” than a growth driver
  • Think learning AI is ‘not your thing’
  • Feel like giving or receiving process-oriented feedback is painful or unkind

Benefits
We invest in people who move the business forward. We offer competitive compensation and a high-trust, high-performance environment where operators can thrive. Perks include:

  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • No bureaucracy or layers of management, just clear goals and real ownership
  • Work with founders and leadership daily
  • Tools and training to help you grow in ecommerce and operations
  • A team that moves fast, wins together, and doesn’t tolerate drama

In addition, we provide a monthly health stipend to support coverage until we transition to a full healthcare and retirement package, which is on the roadmap for 2027.

Travel Requirement:

This is a remote leadership role. Because much of the team this position leads and our broader leadership team are based in Southeast Michigan, we expect the Head of Amazon Operations to spend meaningful time in person with the team. During the first six months, expect approximately one Michigan visit every 4–6 weeks, with visits typically lasting 2–4 days. Long-term cadence will typically be 4–6 times per year for 2–4 business days at a time, including quarterly leadership planning and periodic operations/team working sessions. Travel expenses are covered by Ballard House.
