Job Description

Job DescriptionDirect Support Professional(DSP) – SkillBuilding & Community Partner

Guardian Residential Services LLC | Haymarket, VA 20169 | $20–$25/hour | 32 hours/week

About the Role

Guardian Residential Services is hiring a DSP to provide one-on-one In-Home and
community support, through Virginia's DD Waiver, for a 20-year-old man with complex
medical and communication needs. He is bright, social, and understands everything; he is
non-speaking and communicates with body language, facial expression, and an AAC
system. He has apraxia and dyspraxia and is recovering from a stroke, and he makes real
progress when tasks are broken into simple steps and practiced consistently.
This role is about skill-building and community participation, not just caregiving. You'll find
ways for him to take part in every task, teach it step by step, and help him connect with
friends his age.

Schedule

Thursday & Friday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Saturday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Responsibilities
Teach personal care skills step by step (hygiene, shaving, hair, dressing, showering,
toileting) using consistent routines and high repetition
Teach home skills step by step (changing bed linens, laundry, feeding his service dog,

adaptive bike, and Rifton bathing and support equipment
Help a parent secure him in a wheelchair van with ramp and tie-downs
Support him two days a week in a service club at a therapeutic riding center, helping
maintain the stables, paddocks, and arena and prepare horses for riders, and support
his communication with peers and club leaders, including at the club's monthly social
events such as bowling, holiday parties, and movies
Plan and support community and social activities, including therapeutic riding,
adaptive soccer, church, outings with friends, and swimming as part of a two-person
