Defense Daily is a leading intelligence source for defense decision-makers, delivering independent reporting on U.S. defense programs, budgets, contracts, and acquisition decisions to leaders across government and the defense industrial base. We’re hiring a Defense Reporter to join our newsroom, tracking programs beyond the announcements — from policy and budget decisions through how they perform in practice.

What you’ll do

- Own a defense beat, delivering accurate, authoritative, timely news coverage for Defense Daily
- Write concise, sharply crafted daily news stories under deadline
- Report across formats — breaking news, analytical features, and on-camera video interviews
- Contribute regularly to social media, posting news, video, and photos in coordination with editorial leadership
- Help manage the daily newsletter in the absence of senior editors
- Support live events and webinars, including recruiting speakers and presenting editorial briefings as needed
- Cover face-to-face defense industry events and trade shows, representing Defense Daily on-site
- Partner with sales on identifying subscriber and advertiser targets

What we’re looking for
\n
- \n
- Four-year degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
- Must be located in the Washington D.C. Metro area
- 2+ years of daily or weekly news publishing experience, ideally covering defense, government, or technology
- Strong news judgment and the ability to write fast and clean under deadline
- Excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple beats and deadlines simultaneously
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours during breaking news

- Background in aerospace, defense, or a related technical discipline
- Familiarity with Congress and federal rulemaking
