Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer, Manufacturing for an opportunity with one of our valued clients in Plano, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional with a strong background in industrial, utility, or mission-critical power distribution design, including medium-voltage switchgear and protective relaying.
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing and integrating electrical power distribution systems, developing drawings and equipment specifications, and supporting safe, reliable, and manufacturable solutions. This role works closely with engineering, production, testing, and quality teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements and applicable industry standards.

Salary: $100,000–$119,000 annually

Responsibilities
- Design industrial, utility, and mission-critical electrical power distribution systems.
- Develop medium-voltage designs using equipment in the 5 kV–35 kV class, including switchgear and protective relaying.
- Analyze customer specifications, project requirements, and electrical drawings to develop appropriate engineering solutions.
- Prepare and review one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and related design documentation.
- Select and specify electrical equipment and components based on system requirements and applicable standards.
- Develop protection strategies and coordinate protective relay settings.
- Perform or lead short-circuit, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies.
- Create and maintain bills of materials and support component selection and alternatives.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, procurement, testing, and quality teams to implement designs and resolve issues.
- Support manufacturing, equipment testing, commissioning, and field troubleshooting.
- Apply relevant NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and UL requirements to electrical designs.
- Perform additional engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of four years of experience in industrial, utility, or mission-critical power distribution design.
- Demonstrated experience with medium-voltage equipment in the 5 kV–35 kV class, including switchgear and protective relaying.
- Experience performing or leading short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and/or SolidWorks Electrical.
- Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE C37 series, IEEE 1584, and applicable UL switchgear/switchboard standards.
- Ability to interpret and develop electrical drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and manufacturing personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with arc-resistant medium-voltage switchgear and IEEE C37.20.7.
- Experience with data center power architectures, including 2N, distributed redundant, and catcher systems.
- Familiarity with NFPA 110 emergency power systems.
- Experience integrating energy storage systems under UL 9540.
- Experience coordinating utility interconnections.
Pre-Employment and Safety Requirements
- Employment is contingent upon completion of a seven-year nationwide background/criminal check and a five-panel drug screen that includes THC, subject to applicable requirements.
- Steel-toe boots are required on the first workday. A boot voucher will be provided.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to work in office and manufacturing/shop settings.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
