Position Overview
The Art Teacher – Elective is responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment while providing students with meaningful opportunities to explore art, creativity, and self-expression. The Art Teacher will develop and deliver age-appropriate art instruction, introduce students to a variety of artistic techniques and media, assess student progress, and encourage students to develop their creativity and individual artistic abilities.
The Art Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and staff to ensure that art instruction supports the overall academic, social, and emotional development of students.

- Provide direct instruction in Art as an elective/enrichment course to students in assigned grade levels.
- Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on art lessons aligned with appropriate Texas standards and curriculum expectations.
- Learn and understand the K-6 curriculum and demonstrate knowledge of how art and creative expression can support core academic learning.
- Introduce students to a variety of artistic disciplines, techniques, and media, including drawing, painting, crafts, sculpture, mixed media, design, and art appreciation.
- Provide instruction that takes into account the diverse and unique characteristics, abilities, interests, and needs of students and their families.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages creativity, exploration, self-expression, collaboration, and respect for the work of others.
- Develop projects and activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and fine-motor development.
- Adapt instruction and activities to meet the individual learning needs and abilities of students.
- Orient students to the art elective, communicate expectations, establish appropriate classroom procedures, and set and enforce deadlines where applicable.
- Teach students the appropriate and safe use of art materials, tools, and equipment.
- Take ownership for students’ academic and creative progress and attendance; communicate high expectations and demonstrate an active interest in each student's achievement.
- Provide individualized instruction and support to help students achieve established learning objectives.
- Assess and document student participation, progress, and achievement.
- Grade student work and maintain appropriate records; alert the administrator to concerns regarding student performance, participation, or progress.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other staff to integrate art activities and projects with academic and school-wide initiatives.
- Collaborate with peers in order to provide a positive and supportive experience for students.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and other school activities as required.
- Utilize appropriate technology and digital tools to enhance instruction and student learning.
- Support school-wide events, student showcases, exhibitions, and other activities that highlight student accomplishments when applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field.
- Hold a Texas Teaching Certificate appropriate to the assigned grade level/subject area, as applicable.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- ESL Certified or in the process of obtaining certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of art education, instructional practices, and classroom management.
- Able to pass Federal background check requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field.
- Previous experience teaching art to elementary and/or middle school students.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools.
- Experience developing interdisciplinary projects that connect art with core academic subjects.
- Experience working with students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.

- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach, and move about the classroom as needed to perform essential functions.

- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation and student records.
- Ability to travel to and work on-site in Dilley, Texas, Monday through Friday.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $85,000
