Job Description
About Flair
\n
Flair is transforming influencer marketing by helping brands find and partner with the social media creators already shopping with them. We believe the best partnerships are rooted in authenticity, and no one can represent a brand more authentically than a customer. Flair identifies content creators from recent purchases and then coordinates them to share their experience with the brand.
\n
\n
Since launching in January, we’ve grown to more than 50 paying customers and 15,000 creators. We’re a team of five, backed by Gutter Capital.
\n
\n
\n
The Role
\n
We’re looking for a founding engineer who operates at a staff level and wants to shape both a product and the engineering team behind it.
\n
\n
You’ll join our full-time engineer, fractional CTO, and product designer, working directly with our founders. The product is live and customers love us, but the big decisions are still ahead: how the system scales, how our agents behave, what the product feels like.
\n
\n
\n
How we work
\n
- \n
- We trust each other and move fast. We minimize the layers of approval commensurate to risk. If you see something worth fixing, you can fix it! As a user put it: "I feel like every day I see something new”
- You have real freedom. You decide what to build alongside the people using it, and you own how it gets built.
- We build for failure. Systems will fail, unexpected errors will arise. We build complex workflows from simple ideas.
- Simple wins. Every abstraction has to earn its place. We'd rather delete a layer than add one.
- Agents write a lot of our code, but we still debate design. Embracing AI frees us to slow down where it counts: the shape of an API, the name of a function, the line between two systems.
- Mistakes become guardrails. When a person or an agent gets something wrong, we turn it into a type, a lint rule, or a check so it can't happen twice.

What you'll do
\n
Build AI that works in production
\n
- \n
- Work closely with our product designer to build polished, responsive interfaces. Bring your own judgment, question confusing interactions, and help find better solutions.
- Build agents that brands trust with real relationships. They find creators, negotiate offers, and keep conversations going for months. They act within clear limits and know when to hand off to a person.
- Make complex workflows that feel simple. Campaigns, messages, and payments that cross several outside systems, shown in interfaces that make it obvious what's happening and what comes next.
- Set the foundations. Standards, tooling, and boundaries that let a small team ship fast without breaking things. What you set up now is what every future engineer builds on.
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Own reliable systems
\n
- \n
- Design backend systems and durable workflows that handle retries, failures, and processes that unfold over days or weeks.
- Make architecture, infrastructure, and vendor decisions that balance reliability, cost, and engineering time.
- Build security into how we handle payments and creator data, and support our SOC 2 work as we scale.
- Take responsibility for reliability through on-call, incident response, and postmortems that lead to concrete improvements.
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
Our stack
\n
We're TypeScript end to end, with durable workflows, real money moving through the system, and coding agents in the loop every day. We'll walk you through the rest when we talk. We’re always open to new technologies, even new languages.
\n
\n
\n
Who you are
\n
This is an early startup and it asks a lot. 50+ hour weeks are normal, and sometimes a weekend or a holiday needs you. In return you get scope, ownership, and freedom you won't find at a bigger company.
\n
\n
Additionally:
\n
- \n
- You have 3+ years building production software, ideally time as a tech lead, founding engineer, or founder.
- You have taste in code and in product. You can say why an interface or an API feels wrong, and then you fix it.
- You've shaped a team's standards for work.
- You've shipped LLM features to production. You know the demo is easy and the hard part is evals, reliability, and edge cases.
- You work fast with coding agents and still hold their output to a higher standard.
- You make infrastructure decisions on evidence and cost, and you know when to buy instead of build.
- You write clearly. Design docs, reviews, and postmortems are part of the job.
- Bonus if you've built products in marketplaces, creator economy, or fenpayments.

Compensation and location
